Natural Resource Conservation Service, the Office of Soil and Water Conservation, the Soil and Water Conservation Districts, along with the Louisiana Association of Conservation Districts share a partnership that is unlike any other. Federal, state, local, and private entities all come together to make conservation efforts a successful reality.
We share a responsibility to protect and preserve Louisiana’s natural resources so future generations can continue to rely on the quality food, fiber, and landscapes we know today. As stewards of the land, conservation districts are committed to leaving our natural resources in better condition than they were found.
LACD is driven by both passion and purpose to share the impactful conservation work taking place across our districts. By highlighting these efforts, we help demonstrate how conservation planning, collaboration, and local leadership continue to strengthen Louisiana’s natural resources for years to come.
The Louisiana Association of Conservation Districts (LACD) was founded in 1947 in response to the growing need for coordinated conservation efforts across the state. Following the establishment of local Soil and Water Conservation Districts, LACD was created to unify these districts, provide a collective voice, and support conservation work at the local level.
Since its founding, LACD has served as a statewide organization representing Louisiana’s 44 Soil and Water Conservation Districts. The association works to strengthen collaboration among districts, promote conservation education and outreach, and advocate for policies and programs that support responsible stewardship of Louisiana’s natural resources.
Over the decades, LACD has adapted alongside the evolving conservation needs of the state. From early soil and water protection efforts to today’s broader focus on interconnected natural resources, the association continues to support locally led solutions that reflect the diversity of Louisiana’s landscapes, agriculture, wildlife, and communities.
